Historic Market “Strata a Foglia”

1 Minute of reading

This ancient market is still held daily today, with a lively backdrop of voices, colors, and scents that recall the city’s Arab origins.

In the heart of Caltanissetta, the Historic Market known as “Strata ’a Foglia” takes its name from the paved street branching into side alleys which, since the 19th century, has hosted stalls of fruit and vegetables, aromatic herbs, and cut flowers destined for noble tables and apothecary shops.

Here you can find prickly pears, blood oranges, cluster tomatoes, as well as local cheeses and fragrant bread baked in the stone oven of the nearby district. The market is still a place of social exchange where local restaurateurs meet to agree on prices and quality, keeping alive a very short supply chain.
