The Diocesan Museum of Caltanissetta, founded in 1983 by Monsignor Giovanni Speciale – to whom it is now dedicated – was inaugurated in 1986 with the first rooms set up on the ground floor of the Episcopal Seminary.

Museo Diocesano di Arte Sacra

The collection includes around five hundred works of art dating from the 15th to the 21st century, coming from the churches of the Diocese of Caltanissetta, particularly from Caltanissetta, Mussomeli, Santa Caterina Villarmosa, Sutera, and especially Calascibetta.
The museum displays paintings, sculptures, liturgical objects, and artifacts of great historical and artistic value. Among the most significant pieces are a 16th-century copy of Raphael’s Spasimo di Sicilia, attributed to Polidoro da Caravaggio, two silver reliquaries from the 16th century made by Nibilio Gagini, a refined ivory casket from the workshop of the Embriachi, and a substantial series of paintings by the local artist Vincenzo Roggeri, active between the 17th and 18th centuries.
The exhibition path is completed with a section dedicated to contemporary art, featuring outstanding works such as Malatiello by Gemito, The Face of Mary by Tripisciano, an achromatic statuette of Saint Michael made by Frattallone, a painting by Carpi, and works by artists such as Tesei, Ciminaghi, Consadori, Filocamo, Longaretti, Manfrini, Pellini, and Ruffini.
