The proposal to erect a monument to the Fallen in war dates back to March 17, 1923, signed by the then Mayor, Lawyer Gasparino Cacciatore.

Parco della Rimembranza - Umberto I

The project was entrusted to the sculptor Sorge, and a committee was established to organize a public subscription, composed of Magistrate Lawyer Nicasio (President), Professor Calogero Sesta (Vice President), Baroness Piazza, and the teachers Anna and Filippina Vaccari. The monument was inaugurated by His Excellency Pietro Lanza di Scalea, Minister for the Colonies, on September 16, 1926. The statue represents Glory, raising with her right hand the palm of victory and with her left hand letting oak leaves fall onto the altar of the Fallen.

On the monument was carved the epigraph dictated by Lanza:
"They fell on the field of honor
They rose again to the heaven of glory
They live in the heart of the nation
They shaped in the pain of sacrifice
The joy of victory
The eternal sleep of death they transform
Into the immortal vigil of watchful spirits
The soul of the fatherland."

The base border with chain, fasces, and decorative elements was the work of fellow citizen Professor Meschino. Around the monument, in artistic flowerbeds, sacred trees were planted, each dedicated to the names of the glorious Fallen—80 men from Serradifalco.
