The railway would not only have served to connect the mines of Casa Trabia and Casa Pignatelli Fuentes, the Gruttille group (Arciprete, Donna Maranna, etc.), Diliella, Galati, Grasta, and later Gallitano, Pisciacane, Cicutella, Nepotelli Bucciarìa, Domenico lo Sbirro, Portella di Pietro, Vignola, and many others, but it also aimed to bring the towns along the route out of isolation by linking them to the Canicattì–Licata line. According to its designer, this narrow-gauge railway would have had Delia’s station as a crucial hub.
The train, coming from Sommatino station, would have crossed the districts of Marcato Bianco and Gebbiarossa, entered Delia from Calvario, passed under the Croce bridge (now buried), crossed a short stretch over a small bridge (later demolished for the construction of Via Luigi Russo), and arrived at the railway station—which still exists—together with its adjacent warehouse. From there, it would have departed toward Canicattì, passing by another railway crossing (still standing) on Viale Europa, under the Itria bridge (still existing but now buried), through the present Via Gramsci, exiting the town at the level crossing on Via Campo, and continuing past the small stations of Meli’s grove and Barberi in the Calaciura district.
