The small gatekeeper’s lodging has preserved its original terrazzo floors and ceilings decorated with floral frescoes. From the veranda, one could once watch the trains passing along the secondary line that connected Delia to Caltanissetta; today, thanks to restoration carried out by local volunteers, the station clock once again symbolically marks the passing of time, and the original signage has been reinstated. This building, protected as an ethnographic heritage site, is now the destination of guided tours that recount the history of regional railways and their impact on the social and productive fabric of inland Sicily.
Gatehouse with Kiln
A unique example of Sicilian industrial archaeology, the Delia Railway Gatehouse with kiln combined the functions of control station and brick production. Next to the railway line stood a Hoffmann kiln, fueled with coal waste from steam locomotives, used for firing bricks and tiles for local constructions. The remains of the combustion chambers, refractory bricks, and still-visible Decauville rails tell of an efficient production model for its time.
