Here, the researcher identified a rich presence of scattered materials demonstrating the occupation of the site from the Greek period to the Late Empire, as evidenced by polygonal masonry structures and tiles stamped with the inscription GALB, similar to those found in the rich site of Contrada Cappellano (Delia).
As the archaeologist herself notes:
“For a number of reasons, the settlement of Marcatobianco appears to be highly interesting; only a systematic stratigraphic investigation, however, could fully clarify its overall characteristics and date its various phases of ancient occupation, approximately ranging from the 5th century BC to the late Roman Imperial period.
Undoubtedly, the site represents one of the most significant testimonies of the continuous vitality of occupation and activity in the Salso Valley area.”
According to Professor Giovanni Uggeri, the Masseria Marcatobianco was a Roman farmhouse.
